ALERTA:
The scholarship is awarded without age restrictions. Unfortunately, collective registrations are not accepted.

"Zwangsarbeit/en – Work Force/d" places the National Socialist forced labour sites in Stuttgart at the centre of an artistic exploration. Between 1939 and 1945, tens of thousands of people from all over Europe were employed as forced laborers in Stuttgart – in industry, construction, agriculture, public institutions and private homes, often in inhumane conditions. The sites of this forced labor were part of everyday urban life. Many of them still exist today, but they are hardly recognizable as sites of violence, exploitation, and disenfranchisement. The Akademie Schloss Solitude and the Coordination Office for the Culture of Memory of the City of Stuttgart are offering two artist residency scholarships, each lasting six months, for the period between July 2026 and June 2027. This call is open to German and international artists who are willing to engage artistically with specific historical sites of forced labor in Stuttgart and to develop new forms of memory culture. The locations must be situated within the city of Stuttgart. The research will be supported by the Coordinating Office for the Culture of Memory. The scholarship includes: a six-month stay in Stuttgart, optionally divided into two periods, a monthly stipend of €1,300, a furnished studio for living/working at the Akademie Schloss Solitude, one-time reimbursement of round trip expenses, project funding in the amount of €5,000 per scholarship (for research and production), coverage of health insurance costs for non-EU citizens, participation in events organized by the Akademie Schloss Solitude, support with local and regional networking, access to the workshops (wood, metal, video editing/VR) and libraries of the Akademie Schloss Solitude. For more general information and also about the requirements for registration, visit the official website of the program.

The New European Bauhaus (NEB) is an EU initiative that aims to recognise the diversity of places, traditions and cultures in Europe and beyond and has the potential to bring integrated solutions beyond Europe, but also to learn from and inspire European cities through international practices and success stories. The program rewards initiatives that involve a multidisciplinary approach, involving disciplines such as architecture, design, urbanism, geography, various social sciences and humanities, creative economy, management, communication and cultural-social mediation, public policies, education and training, and topics such as smart cities, sustainability, biodiversity, social inclusion, communities, participatory processes, and others. In a pilot approach, in 2026 the competition was open to countries that have expressed a clear interest, that are actively involved in International Urban and Regional Cooperation and have a high degree of attention to these issues and for the first time, the Awards will accept applications from Brazil and Japan. Therefore, the 2026 edition of the NEB Awards will reward and celebrate projects and ideas by young Brazilians that embody the values of the New European Bauhaus (sustainable, inclusive, beautiful) and its working principles: a participatory process, multi-level involvement and a transdisciplinary approach. One Brazilian winning project will receive one of the international prizes worth 20 000 euros and two other classified Brazilian projects will receive cash prizes worth 5000 euros each. Brazilian projects are invited to submit in one of four thematic categories within the two established strands of the Awards competition. In order to encourage new collaborative work processes and innovative productions involving international cultural exchange, the Goethe-Institut established the Co-Production Fund (IKF) in 2016. This funding is intended for co-productions by artists in the fields of theatre, dance, music and performance, in which hybrid and interdisciplinary formats and the use of digital media can be key components. The target group is made up of professional artists, ensembles and initiatives abroad and in Germany, who demonstrate a lack of sufficient resources to carry out an international co-production project on their own. The joint application, which must be submitted by the foreign partner (living and working abroad), must clearly show that there are already good working contacts between the partners and that both parties are interested in setting up a dialogue-oriented production. The Goethe-Institut headquarters recommends contacting local institutes with questions about the development of projects and applications. The Fund promotes projects of high artistic level and with considerable public impact. The results of the collaborative efforts must be presented in a professional environment abroad, if possible also in Germany. The application must include a feasible financial plan that, in addition to third-party funding, shows the substantial contributions of all project partners involved. The amount of the grant requested must not be more than €30,000 or less than €15,000. Interested artists and cultural professionals can apply by sending an email to koproduktionsfonds@goethe.de.
